Privacy Policy
This policy explains what data Preflight handles, where it goes, and what stays on your device. Preflight is published by Cloud Valley B.V., which is the data controller for any personal data described here.
Summary

- No analytics, advertising or tracking.
- No access to your location, contacts, camera or photos.
- Your favorites and settings stay on your device and are never uploaded.
- Network requests are made only to fetch weather, sun times, map tiles and app updates.
Data Stored on Your Device
Your favorite airports, recently viewed airports, the selected airport, your time format preference and the values you enter in calculators such as flight time and in-flight rest are stored in the app's local storage. This data never leaves your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app. It is protected by your device's own security measures, so we recommend using a lock screen and device encryption.
Weather and Sun Times
When you look up METAR or TAF reports or sunrise and sunset times, the app sends a request to a proxy server operated by Cloud Valley B.V. The request contains the airport identifier (ICAO code), the airport coordinates for sun times, and an app key that identifies the Preflight app, not you. The proxy forwards the request to AVWX for weather data and to Sunrise-Sunset for sun times, and returns the result.
Like any server, the proxy receives your device's IP address as part of the request. It is used only to deliver the response back to your device. The proxy does not keep request logs, so neither your IP address nor the airports you look up are stored, profiled or shared with anyone.
Maps
Airport maps are provided by different services depending on your platform. When a map is shown, your device requests map imagery for the airport area directly from the provider, which receives your IP address and the map area requested. No user location is sent, because Preflight does not access your location.
- iOS: Apple Maps (MapKit), subject to Apple's privacy policy.
- Android: map tiles from CARTO based on OpenStreetMap data, and the Leaflet map library loaded from the unpkg.com content delivery network.
- Web: map tiles from CARTO based on OpenStreetMap data.
App Updates
On launch, the app may contact Expo's update service (expo.dev) to check for and download updates to the app's code and assets. That request includes technical details needed to select the right update, such as the platform, app version and update identifier. It does not include any of your personal data.
Airport Data
The airport and runway database is bundled with the app and read from your device. No request is made to any airport data service while you use the app.
Third-Party Services
We do not control the third-party services above or their data practices. Please refer to their respective privacy policies: Apple, CARTO, OpenStreetMap, unpkg, Expo, AVWX and Sunrise-Sunset.
Analytics and Tracking
Preflight does not include analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking software of any kind. We do not track, monitor or collect information about how you use the app.
Children
Preflight is a reference tool for pilots and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Your Rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the right to access, correct, delete and restrict the processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority such as the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. Because the app stores its data only on your device, you can delete it at any time by clearing the app's data or uninstalling the app. For questions about this policy, contact us through https://cloudvalley.co/.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes are published in the app with a new "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
