Every tool

Everything you reach for on the line.

Thirteen focused tools, each a tap from the home screen. Star the ones you use every sector and drag them into your own order.

Weather

METAR and TAF, decoded.

Raw reports broken down line by line into tiles you can read at a glance: wind on a compass, visibility on a scale, cloud layers with the ceiling picked out, QNH, temperature and dew point, present weather and trend.

  • Flight category at a glance. VFR, MVFR, IFR or LIFR, worked out from the visibility and ceiling.
  • Handles the awkward groups. US fractional visibilities, m/s and km/h winds, vicinity showers and obscured skies.
  • Sun times for the airport. Sunrise and sunset with the sun's path plotted on the airport screen.
METAR & TAF screen for EHAM showing a VFR badge, wind 070° at 6 knots on a compass, visibility 10 SM, and a cloud layer chart with a broken ceiling at 4,700 ft.

Duty and rest

Max daily FDP and in-flight rest.

EASA flight time limitation tables and rest splits for augmented crews, checked against the UTC clock. Enter your report time and sectors, and see the band you fall in.

  • ORO.FTL.205 Table 2 for an acclimatised crew, with extended FDP and the report-time windows where it is not allowed.
  • Rest windows for three or four pilots. One break, equal splits or a custom schedule, with each turn timed in UTC.
  • Live UTC next to the plan so you can line the turns up against the clock in the cruise.
Max Daily FDP screen with a report time of 06:15, three sectors, the 06:00–13:29 band and a maximum FDP of 12:30.
In-Flight Rest screen with a 10 hour rest window from 14:35 to 00:35 UTC split between three pilots, 3 hours 20 minutes each.

Airports

Airports and runways, offline.

ICAO and IATA codes, coordinates, elevation, runway lengths, widths, surfaces and headings for 70,000+ airports, bundled with the app so it works on the ground and at altitude.

  • Search by code or name. Recent airports stay one tap away.
  • Show on map. A frosted sheet with the airport pinned, without ever asking for your location.
  • Straight into the weather. The selected airport carries over to METAR & TAF and Wind Components.

Calculators and decoders

The routine sums, done in seconds.

Results are colour-coded the way the app does it: green for favourable, orange for caution, red for a limit.

Wind components

Runway heading, wind direction and speed in, headwind and crosswind out, gusts included.

Headwind 13.78 kts Crosswind 11.57 kts
Wind Components screen: runway 24, wind 280° at 18 knots, giving a 40° wind angle, 13.78 knots headwind and 11.57 knots crosswind.

Fuel uplift

Required fuel minus what is on board, in kilograms or litres at your density. Says "Defuel" when you are over.

SNOWTAM decoder

Paste a whole Global Reporting Format message and read the runway condition code, contaminant, coverage and depth for each third, colour-coded by braking action.

RWYCC 5 Good3 Medium1 Poor

Flight time and distance

Block times across time zones, great-circle distance and both bearings between any two airports.

Unit conversion

Feet, metres, nautical miles, knots, kilograms, pounds, litres, gallons, hPa and inHg, without rounding the small ones to zero.

References

IATA delay codes, aviation abbreviations and VOLMET frequencies by region, searchable and offline.

Private by design

Nothing about you leaves your phone.

Preflight has no account, no analytics and no advertising. The only network requests it makes fetch weather, sun times, map tiles and app updates.

  • No account, ever

No sign-up, login or profile. Install it and go.

  • No tracking

No analytics, crash reporting, ads or third-party SDKs watching what you do.

  • Stays on the device

Favorites, recents and calculator inputs live in local storage and are deleted with the app.

  • No location access

Maps are drawn around the airport you chose, never around you.

FAQ

Questions from the flight deck.

Does Preflight need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, login or profile. Install the app and start using it. Your favorites and settings are stored on your device only.

Does Preflight work offline?

The airport and runway database, every calculator, the decoders and the reference lists are bundled with the app and work without a connection. Live METAR and TAF reports and sunrise and sunset times need internet access.

Where does the weather data come from?

METAR and TAF reports are fetched through a proxy operated by Cloud Valley B.V. that forwards to the AVWX aviation weather service. The request contains only the ICAO code and an app key, never anything about you.

Which regulations do the duty tools use?

Max Daily FDP uses the EASA flight time limitation tables in ORO.FTL.205 and assumes an acclimatised crew. In-Flight Rest splits a rest window between three or four pilots against the UTC clock. Always check the figures against your operator's OM-A.

Is Preflight an official source?

No. Preflight is a reference and calculation aid. Weather, NOTAM and performance decisions must be based on your operator's approved documentation and official briefing sources.
